THE URINARY SYSTEM
The urinary system is the
main excretory system of the body and helps to
regulate blood chemistry. Organs of the urinary
system that work together include the:
- Kidneys
- Ureters
- Urinary bladder
- Urethra
Maintaining homeostasis is a
primary function of the urinary system. This process
includes regulating the concentration and balance
of water, salt, and acid-alkaline equilibrium
in body fluids. In addition, the urinary system
removes nitrogen-containing waste materials from
the bloodstream.
The kidneys are vital to the
urinary system, specialized to process blood and
stabilize the body's internal balance when changes
occur in body-fluid content, blood pressure, and
matabolic processes.
